Producing
and drying
compressed air is costly; for a long time is has been known that controlling the
tower change-over on dewpoint can make significant savings. For instance a 400 CFM dryer with dewpoint control could save nearly £4000 per year!
- see our calculator.
Desiccant dryers rely on air from the dry tower to regenerate the wet
tower. The frequency the columns change, and hence the amount of purge air is
set assuming the dryer is used at maximum capacity. As dryers are rarely used to
their maximum capacity 24/7 then expensive purge air, often up to 25% of the
dryer's capacity, is simply wasted. See our technical bulletin on
'Dewpoint and Dryers'.
The DewLogic is a simple to install retrofit system which controls when a dryer's
operation. During low usage periods, ie nights, weekends and holidays,
the desiccant columns take considerably longer to 'wet up' and so will not come
off line until they can no longer achieve the desired dewpoint. The less
frequent the changes - the less purge air is used!
Not only are there considerable direct cost savings to be made, the Government will also give you tax breaks under the 'Enhanced Capital Allowance' or ECA scheme. This allows you to claim back 100% of costs against corporation tax in the first year, saving up to a third of the cost of the equipment! See our Dryer Saving Calculator to calculate your payback time.
